But there\u2019s also a lot of fun with promposals and parties and good friends and silliness. The proposals are just more public now thanks to social media. No one knows when the first promposal took place, but the first <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recorded<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> one was published in the Dallas Morning News in 2001. So if you\u2019re looking for an idea of something either charming, funny or downright silly, here are a few promposals that even the gals can pull off: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seventeen.com\/prom\/amp22388\/best-girl-promposals\/\">CLICK HERE<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>After-Prom Parties<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These<\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are pretty much the norm, too, but the style and the number of kids who attend varies. Sometimes the group that went to prom together has a little get together at someone\u2019s house or simply goes out for sodas and snacks in their fancy clothes. The formal planning of a personal group celebration is up to those who attend so pretty much anything goes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some schools host the after party with even more food and fun activities, but here is a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">very<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> interesting factoid:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At some schools, attendance at the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">school\u2019s<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after-prom party is <\/span><b><i>mandatory<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">! One girl reported that her school \u201cforced\u201d everybody to play laser tag and other games from the end of prom until 5 a.m. Apparently, the idea was to keep everybody too busy\u2014and too exhausted\u2014to go out drinking!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Prom Weekends<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Depending on the night prom is held and also the locale, some students will plan a weekend as a group. If there\u2019s a beach, they\u2019ll rent a room or even an entire house and hang out until late Sunday. Others (with a wilder side) go camping or hiking or maybe just a road trip to get some wind in the hair, and the radio cranked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the camping idea is appealing\u2014but air conditioning and indoor plumbing are mandatory\u2014have a sleepover. With the right set of parents and the right back yard, you might even be able to make it co-ed (but don\u2019t push that idea if any of the parents are skittish\u2014you don\u2019t want to have to exclude anybody).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Getting Pumped for Prom:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to the promposal rage, some schools\u2014and some students\u2014start the festivities early.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>School-wide Pre-Prom Pep Rally\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just like before homecoming, some schools host a pep rally either the week of, or the day before, or even the day of prom as a way to get everyone\u2019s energy up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Cutting Classes<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If prom is on a Friday night\u2014and the school doesn\u2019t have a mandatory attendance rule\u2014it\u2019s not uncommon for kids to skip the entire school day. (And for those schools <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a mandatory attendance rule\u2014how can they possibly expect everyone to look picture perfect witout an entire day to primp and prepare? Really, now, get some sense, school board!)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Winning in the Weird Category:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>1st Place: Mock accidents\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To really hit the point home when it comes to drinking and driving, one high school in New York hosts a mock car wreck each year. Flipped cars, crushed drivers\u2019 and passenger side doors (including airbag fails), even student \u201cvictims\u201d dripping with \u201cblood\u201d and fake compound fractures\u2014if it\u2019s gory, it\u2019s included.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1050\" height=\"788\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qffE1o6Y80I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some might think that\u2019s laying it on just a little bit thick, but if it works as a deterrent, then even we won\u2019t give it a thumbs down. (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> want you to be safe, too!)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>2nd Place: Breathalyzer\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well, maybe this should be 1<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">st<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> place in the deterrent category even though it\u2019s less gory than the mock accidents. In any case, one school in the Chicago suburbs reportedly has personnel on hand prepared with Breathalyzers. They\u2019re not done randomly, but if a student tries to walk to his or her car and looks even the least bit inebriated, out comes the Breathalyzer.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>The punishment for failing the Breathalyzer? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mom and\/or Dad has to come pick you up <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and&#8230;<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You&#8217;re disqualified from the graduation exercises so you can\u2019t even attend your own senior graduation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ouch<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8230;but effective!)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Isn\u2019t It Romantic?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Girls Wearing Garters<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/pin\/496381190151882396\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2135\" src=\"http:\/\/sparkleprom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/promposal2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"736\" height=\"490\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sparkleprom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/promposal2.jpg 736w, https:\/\/sparkleprom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/promposal2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sparkleprom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/promposal2-434x289.jpg 434w, https:\/\/sparkleprom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/promposal2-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 736px) 100vw, 736px\" \/>Pinterest<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Garters are a fun memento that prom-goers swiped from the wedding industry. It\u2019s a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">very<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> impressive story, and we recommend you read it. Why? Because the news story won an <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emmy<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">! \u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aquinschools.org\/about\/prom.cfm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Find the article by clicking here.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Essentially it works like this:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All the girls\u2019 names are put into one container.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All the boys\u2019 names are put into another.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the order a guy\u2019s name is picked, that\u2019s the order he gets to pick a girl\u2019s name.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the meantime, the girls are all hanging out in the gym with paper bags over their heads\u2014silly pasted-on faces or whatever they want to do.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then the boys come out and perform a skit before they reveal who they chose for their date.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s also a tradition that the parents can come and watch the prom draw.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If there aren\u2019t enough couples from the junior and senior class, then sophomores\u2014with permission from their parents\u2014are added to the draw to even things up.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, some guys go with two dates in order to even things out.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Corny?
