Let\u2019s challenge that.\u00a0<\/span>Let\u2019s say instead \u201ceverything about Prom has to be a lot of <\/span>fun<\/span><\/i>.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n With that in mind, we\u2019ll share some totally over the top Prom escapades to both make you laugh and help you think twice about just how many of your precious earned dollars you want to spend on just one night.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Before we even get to the peer pressure to <\/span>look<\/span><\/i> perfect, these days, promposals are also often expected to be over the top. According to a survey by Practical Money Skills\u2014done \u201cway back\u201d in 2015\u2014the promposal alone will run over $300! <\/span><\/p>\n (We wouldn\u2019t lie to you\u2014check it out here: <\/span>CLICK HERE<\/span><\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n Using a traditional inflation calculator, it will \u201conly\u201d be $305 (or more) in 2017 but still. Three <\/span>hundred<\/span><\/i> dollars? Makes that \u201cridiculous and embarrassingly corny\u201d promposal done with donuts\u2014at $9 a dozen\u2014 sound pretty sweet, doesn\u2019t it?<\/span><\/p>\n It wasn\u2019t sweet enough for a 2015 Connecticut teen, though. He skydived from 10,000 feet with a hand-written sign, \u201cProm?\u201d and had his friends film the promposal. Cost? Big city schools on both coasts as well as upscale Midwest\u2014like the Chicago suburbs\u2014will run more just for tickets. Let\u2019s take a look at the range of numbers based on research by <\/span>Prom Girl<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n That\u2019s a range from $175 to $2,100 but can you see what\u2019s missing?<\/span><\/p>\n Your corsage isn\u2019t listed. Why not? Because the girl\u2019s corsage has the widest price range. Teleflora\u2019s prices for a modest Midwest suburb run from $32-$72 but you can spend as little as a few dollars for a couple of tiny blossoms up to $100+ for a generous wristlet or nosegay. <\/span><\/p>\n Never mind that many families just can\u2019t afford to lay out that kind of money, if you\u2019ve been working hard at a part-time job, do you really want to spend <\/span>all<\/span><\/i> your cash in one place e.g. prom? It\u2019s OK if you do, but give it some thought. <\/span><\/p>\n Two examples: $2,000 is a <\/span>very<\/span><\/i> nice down payment on a used car, <\/span>or<\/span><\/i> it\u2019ll probably cover all of your freshman college dorm room supplies <\/span>including<\/span><\/i> a new wardrobe!<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Obviously, your parents love you, and they may forfeit something they want to give you a dream night. But have you ever heard that using credit cards is \u201cmortgaging your future\u201d? If your folks have to put too much of prom on a credit card, somebody has to pay that off. So whose earnings are already spent? Yours? Theirs?
